BOSTON (May 1, 2024) -- Global media and entertainment technology company Backlight today announced that its cloud-based linear playout solution, Zype Playout, is now available in AWS Marketplace, a digital catalog with thousands of software listings from independent software vendors (ISVs) that make it easy to find, test, buy, and deploy software that runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Zype Playout makes it easy for content owners to turn live and on-demand video into pop-up or 24/7 digital linear channels for broadcast-quality distribution to their owned and operated (O&O) or third-party streaming platforms (e.g., FAST, vMVPDs).
With the availability of Backlight’s award-winning playout solution in AWS Marketplace, customers can seamlessly manage, deploy, and monetize their content with pre-approved terms, streamlined purchasing, and contracting processes so that they can focus on innovation and delivering high-performance, high-quality video products to their viewers.
Building linear channels for FAST and O&O distribution that are compatible with all the standards, revenue models, and distribution outlets, across social media, OTT, and owned and operated platforms, can be complex.
With Zype Playout, AWS customers can now rapidly build and deliver streaming video channels through Backlight’s easy-to-use cloud-based platform. Distribution options include standards-based streaming to any destination using HLS3, HLS4, SRT, or Zixi protocols, as well as connectivity to social media platforms like YouTube, as well as the Wurl Global FASTPass network of 40+ FAST and vMVPD destinations, including Samsung TV Plus, Roku, Pluto TV, and more. With Zype Playout, content owners can expand the reach and relevance of their content library through linear channel distribution, using Playout to manage and schedule content, automate channel programming, insert graphics, and monetize with ad break insertion. Broadcasters, digital publishers, consumer brands, and developers have all built and monetized playout channels using Backlight’s API-driven software.
The flexibility of Backlight’s cloud-based playout infrastructure leads to cost savings compared to legacy on-prem playout hardware because it can be turned off when not in use and scaled up or down depending on operational needs. Now that it is available in AWS Marketplace, customers will be able to easily extend their video workflows with Backlight’s robust cloud-playout solution.
“Using Zype Playout, we were able to implement an ‘Always-On strategy’ for YouTube. Zype Playout’s ease of use allowed us to grow our main channel. After just six months, we increased our monthly watch hours by 900%,” said Steven Keith, channel manager, Spinmaster (Paw Patrol, Tech Deck, hatchimals). “We are excited to be able to integrate Backlight’s solution in a deeper way via AWS Marketplace.”
